Americans are too Fat, Dumb and Dishonest; Jesus Was a Terrorist; We Have to Do Something!
Too Fat, Dumb and Dishonest?
I heard a few days ago some very sad statistics. 75% of all of America’s youth are unfit for military service. 75%! I read this in AOL news. 75% of all of America’s youth are unfit for military service. Do you know why? Number one, they are too fat. We have an undisciplined society. They are too dumb. And they are too dishonest. That is what they wrote. They actually wrote is just like that, that blunt: they are too fat, too dumb, and they are too dishonest because they have been in trouble with the law. We have got to train the kids. We have got to, as a church, we have got to cry out. We have to be that voice.
We have now Fall, and what do we have at our churches, on our marquees? Fall Fest: fun, games, candy and cake. That is what the church does. The church is the voice. The church is the voice that is to cry out! Who can we depend on if not the church? You cannot depend on business. The UPS man stopped out here and he said, “I thank you for what you are doing. I could not do that.” (Of course, he could. He just won’t pay the price.) He said, “If I was to do that, they would fire me.” That is control. In the United States of America! Free speech, First Amendment! He said, “If I was to do what you do they would fire me.” You cannot depend on business.
You cannot depend on the University. You cannot depend on politics. Politicians are too busy kissin’ rear ends to really do anything. Politicians now believe in same sex marriage, believe in abortion, they are hugging up to Islam. You cannot depend on them. We’ve got to depend on the church. We have to be that voice.
Proverbs 17:9 says, “Anyone who trusts in high walls invites disaster.” That is what we have done in America. We have trusted in high walls. We have trusted the military. We just saw in Fort Hood what can happen. We have trusted our intellect, in high walls, what we have built up. We have trusted what we have done, what we have accomplished. We have trusted our intellect, our ability. We trusted the fact that we are way over here, and all of the bad guys are way over there. They are far, far away! We have to trust in God. We have to trust in God and then we have to do something with that trust.
We have to trust that we can do it, and then we have to do it. Just like with the furniture moving business. You have to trust that you can do it. But trusting that you can do it will not get it delivered. Trusting you can do it will not bring any money in. You have to actually do it. You have to grab a hold of it, put it in the truck, put a blanket on it, tie it down, get in the truck, drive a long way, and deliver it, and only then are you done, for that moment. You see, the church has stopped with just trusting. “Here we are just trusting!” And as we are trusting, it is all going to Hell.
Jesus Was a Terrorist
“Evil prevails when good men do nothing.” So we have to do something. If you come here very long, you will start to do something or you will quit coming. That is what we do. We are called to do something. We are called to go outside the walls, outside the church.
We continue our study of the word 'love.' Much different than we thought it was, or we have been taught. God does love us, but there is much more to that word than just the fact that God loves you and everything is going to be OK. There is sometimes much more that we have to do in order to make that happen. Just like last night, some people put signs over our signs. One of those signs said, “The Gators hate us.” Well, I am not from here so I am actually anything but a Gator Fan.
The other one was “Dove are terrorists” Also a nice sign. That’s what Jesus was. Jesus was a terrorist. The Bible says he came to kill and destroy the works of the Devil. That is what he came for. He was a positive, good, against-the-Devil terrorist.
The other sign said, “God loves everybody.” True, but God will love you as you go to Hell, because the fact that God loves you does not keep you out of Hell. It might convict you. It might give you a revelation. It might cause you to repent and then you will not go to Hell, but just the fact that God loves you, God loves everybody, God loves the Methodists, the Baptists, the heathen, the Moslem, God loves everybody, but that does not matter as far as Eternity goes. You still have to repent. You still have to go in his direction. You still have to become a follower of God, and let the word of God move us and motivate us.
Sometimes we need to be shaken up. We need to see that we are born to do something. We are not born to be rich, we are not born to be poor, we are born to do something. We are born for righteousness. We are born to train ourselves, to let ourselves be trained, to train our kids, for them to see the responsibilities that we have, that we might be able to still change our nation, stand for righteousness.
We started a project in our church. We took the young kids and showed them movies of 9/11. We need to continue that. Sit them down and show them pictures of abortion. We have misplaced priorities. When I go to Publix, and I am standing in line, and I put the food there on the belt, the guy at the other end always asks me, “Is plastic OK?” That is where we have our priorities. We are worried about a landfill. We are worried about plastic!
We are beheading, cutting off the arms and legs of babies, 3600 per day. We are mutilating, destroying, killing lives, and we are worried about plastic. They need to see those pictures. They need to be shaken up by those pictures. They need to watch our youtubes, see that people are being killed, run over by cars. What happened in Fort Hood - write it down - it is only the beginning. Unless we do something, unless we do more than what the church usually does. The church is good at talking. Have you known someone who really could talk? Maybe you’re one of them. They can talk the talk but they don’t walk the walk. They don’t do too much of anything, but oh, they can talk. Every looser can talk, but you have to do something.
Real Friends
A friend loves at all times; And a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17
This is a good verse. The second part is a little bit disappointing, but sometimes it is a factor of life, and we have to choose. But what are we going to choose? Are we going to choose God? Are we going to choose commitment, are we going to choose sacrifice, choose obeying? The Bible here talks about a friend. Here it is a real heavy word. We use that word, especially here in America, we use it real lightly. We basically call everybody that we have ever met or know, a friend. There is another word for that we would never use here: acquaintance. Just someone you met, not really a friend. Are you a friend or are you someone that just comes to church? Are you someone we just happened to meet, or are you someone who has come for the meat loaf? What are you?
This is what a friend is. This is the true Biblical definition if a friend. We call everybody a friend - our neighbor, but he is not a friend. He says, “Hi, Bye, How are you? How’s the kids, how’s the dog, how’s the grand baby,” but that is not a friend. It says here a friend loves at all times. 99% of all Christians are not even friends, because when you need them, they are out the door. They are gone!
From now on, don’t use that word unless you mean it. Don’t call me or someone else your friend unless you mean it, unless you mean it like this. A friend loves, is committed, is there, is dependable when the sun shines, when it does not shine, when we made you mad, when we made you happy, when we said yes, when we said no. A friend is there at all times.
“And a brother is born for adversity.” The family is a weird thing. Sometimes family is really a great thing, but sometimes, according to this verse, sometimes it is exactly those people who turn on you, who you cannot depend on. This is a good verse for all you young people, for all you young people who are watching your parents and you see the sign in the yard, and that makes you unpopular in school, that causes controversy, that makes us not the nice little white church on the corner. Be careful you don’t judge your parents. Be careful you don’t betray them. Be careful you don’t sell them out, everything they did, everything they lived for, when you get older you spit on it, you curse it, you turn your back because you would rather have an i-pod, you would rather be happy, you would rather be popular, you would rather be liked. “A brother is born for adversity.” Be careful because the Devil has not been able to get your parents, but he probably will be able to get you if you are not careful.
