Our "Islam is of the Devil" Signs Were Vandalized

On July 22, 2010, vandals attacked and destroyed two of Dove World Outreach Center's church signs that read "Islam is of the Devil." The signs had been on display outside the church at 5805 NW 37th Street in Gainesville, Florida.

The attack came shortly after the signs received national media attention and sparked a heated debate about free speech, religious expression, and the place of Islam in American society.

Dr. Terry Jones condemned the vandalism and called it an attack on the First Amendment rights of all Americans. "Whether you agree with our message or not," he said, "every American should be concerned when people respond to speech they disagree with through violence and property destruction."

New signs were promptly posted. Dove World Outreach Center remains committed to its right — and its duty — to proclaim its Biblical convictions in the public square, peacefully and lawfully.
