Search Until You Find Someone
Anna Jones. September, 2009
It was a Saturday afternoon when I went out for a walk with my little 6 month old Baby and another 6 month Baby I was taking care of that day. My goal was to share the Gospel about Jesus with somebody who is not saved. Just earlier that day my Pastor talked with me about evangelism and she said something that really grabbed hold of me: “if you don’t find someone right away, you need to keep on looking and searching until you find someone”.
That really made me realize how easily as christian you can slip into a lazy attitude when it comes to evangelism, because of course it is not a very comfortable thing and you always can find excuses why you can’t do it. I was pretty convicted about my own attitude and made the decision to change something about it.
So I put one baby in a sling and the other one I put in the stroller. It was raining slightly. While I was heading to the nearest park, I thought to myself, “I won’t find anybody in the park, when it is raining!” As I came close to the park I was surprised when I saw from the distance a group of people sitting in the park. It looked like they had a kids birthday party. Right away the thought popped up “You can’t disturb their birthday party, that is rude, you are a stranger!”. I pushed the thought aside and just kept heading into their direction. Having two cute babies definitely makes it easy to get in a conversation with people. So as I arrived we started having a small talk.
It turned out it was a family birthday party that was already over. Left were a young mother, my age (27), with her 4 kids (one of them was the birthday kid), her mom, her grandma and her sister plus her kids. After a while we came to the subject of church. As I told them I’m from the Dove World Outreach Center I could see on their faces that they had heard about our church and our fight against Islam. I shared with them about the church and gave my own testimony.
They were all listening carefully and seemed to be Christians. In the end I asked if one of them would like to have prayer. The young woman asked for prayer. She has 4 kids, not married and has a bad job. I asked her if she is saved. She said “No. I know if I pray today the prayer, tomorrow I will anyway mess it up again.”
I told her that this exactly why she needs to be saved, why she needs Jesus, because she can’t save herself. We all need Jesus everyday!! Being saved does not mean to pray one time the prayer and that’s it. It means you acknowledge you are lost without Jesus and you repent. Repent whenever you mess it up, everyday”. You could tell she was so hungry and ready for a change in her life. When I asked her if she would like to get saved, she said YES and we prayed together. She gave her life to Jesus!!! Today she came with her whole family to the Sunday service!! God is good!!!
And I ask myself how many more people are out there waiting for someone to tell them about the salvation power of Jesus Christ.
